An Electric Vehicle (EV) charger is a device that enables an electric vehicle to be charged. The devices require their own electrical supply from the mains and have many clever features to enable the maximum charge to be delivered to your vehicle(s).
Here at Electrics Fixed your local ELECTRICIAN IN LEOMINSTER, we are specialists in the installation, maintenance and replacement of EV charging devices.
Home EV installation
In order to have an EV charger installed at your home there are some checks that we will need to carry out on a site visit that can include:
Safety Earthing
The safety earthing to the pipework around your home will need to be checked to ensure that if an electrical fault develops that no one is likely to come to harm. Our specialist electricians are able to carry out these checks for you.
Capability of the existing Main Fuse
The main fuse for a property is the limiting factor in the amount of electrical demand that the system can draw safely. Where a properties mains supply has a small main fuse, this may require upgrading in order to sufficiently charge an electric vehicle whilst powering the rest of the equipment around the home.
Where a main fuse is not sufficient, we will be able to guide you and help you through the process of having this upgraded.
Suitability of the existing consumer unit or fuse box
The consumer unit or fuse box in a property is rarely every upgraded and can quickly become out of date, non-compliant with regulations and in some cases can be a danger. We will check the capability of your existing fuse board or consumer unit to supply the EV charging equipment and ensure that it is able to cope.
Where old equipment is not quite up to the task, we may recommend a small standalone consumer unit to supply the EV charging equipment or that the main unit is upgraded in order to cope with the increased demand.
Installing the Equipment
Once the equipment is safe to be installed and the checks have been made. The installation is often more straightforward. The best cable route and location to mount the equipment will be identified and discussed with you. The equipment will be installed and commissioned and our electricians will run through the operation of your new EV charger with you to ensure you understand the equipment.
How does it operate?
The EV charging equipment has improved over the years and now comes with features such as load monitoring to prevent overload, timers to take advantage of off-peak tariffs and smart phone app capabilities. The ability to charge the vehicle safely at the highest speed is important and the new EV charging equipment allows the maximum safe electrical current to be delivered to your vehicle at all times.
